Real “tweets” from real birds on the real Twitter!

This might be the BEST thing on Twitter.

In Sarnate, a small village on the west coast of Latvia, a group of people carefully grace a keyboard with a layer of unsalted fat and leave it outside in the garden.

The keyboard is connected to a computer which is connected to the internet and Twitter. Unbeknownst to the birds feeding on the fat, they are simultaneously sending out tweets under the username @hungry_birds.

The birds are able to survive the harsh winter days and nights thanks to the fat and we are highly amused. It’s a win-win. This brings “taking something literally” to a whole a new level.

Here is a sample of said “tweets”:

If you want to see the magic for yourself, check out the video below. You can also watch a live video feed to see the birds in real-time on their website.

Crazy coucou idea or ingenious marketing? The people behind this are associated with Hotel Sarnate, a hotel in Latvia. At least I know where to stay should I ever venture that far north.

It seems like they are also in the running for a Webby in the Online Guerilla & Innovation category – so go VOTE now and tweet for their support!
